Program of Work

The Southmoore FCCLA Program of Work provides various activities and opportunities that will help students develop leadership skills. These activities include fundraising efforts, leadership conferences, community service projects, and student recognition. Our hope and goal are to develop productive individuals that can be leaders in their family, community, and career.

Opportunities with Southmoore FCCLA

Leadership Development

  • Leadership is a key factor with FCCLA. We attend several leadership conferences, including the District Leadership Conference, State Convention, and Take AIM Conference.

  • Officers go through officer training to be a good leader for the chapter by attending the LEAD Conference, an officer training offered by OK FCCLA.

  • Our chapter also encourages members to run for officer positions within our chapter but also for district officer positions. This year, we have one district officer. We hope to have two or three run for district officer positions next year. One of these members has a goal to become a district officer for her Sophomore year and then a state officer her Junior year.

Competitive Events

  • Members are given the opportunity to compete with FCCLA.

  • In September, members learn about the various events and then sign up for the event that interests them.

  • Click here to see descriptions of the events and click here to see the events we have competed in over the past years.

School/Community

Outreach

  • FCCLA volunteers in various ways. For example, we volunteer twice a semester at the OK Regional Food Bank. We also help with the school's Safe Trick or Treat event.

  • Click here to see who else we have helped.

Career Exploration

  • Through the FCS courses, students and members are exposed to various career pathways.

  • The pathways in FCS at Southmoore include Visual Arts, Human Services, and Hospitality and Tourism.

Fundraising

Personal Growth

  • The SHS FCCLA chapter accepts all students. Most have taken or are currently in a FCS course but we do accept students who want to be members but aren't in our classes. Our philosophy is to not exclude someone just because they haven't taken a FCS course. For many of these students, taking a FCS class just doesn't fit into their class schedule.

  • By accepting everyone, we have quite a diverse group members. We constantly have activities that promote personal growth through communication, leadership, and cooperation.

  • We also promote STAR Events to help with growth. Click here to see what events Southmoore participates in, Competing is optional but it does help with personal growth. For many competitors, its their first time competing so by the end of competition, they have grown tremendously.

FCCLA Programs

  • Our chapter tries to participate in all local and state programs.

  • This year, we attended the District Leadership Conference, Take AIM Conference, and LEAD Officer Training. We will also attend the State Convention in April.

  • Locally, we help with the school's Safe Trick or Treat and Holiday Surprises, which both involve all of the clubs at the school.

  • Nationally, we attend the National Leadership Conference if we have students advance to Nationals in STAR Events.

Social Activities

  • After each monthly meeting, we always have some sort of fun activity for members to participate in, such as tie dying, scavenger hunt, and pumpkin painting.

  • These activities help the members work together and build friendships within FCCLA.

  • Click here to see what fun activities we have done this year.

Post Graduation Readiness

  • Through various leadership opportunities in FCCLA and in FCS, students are exposed to post graduation readiness.

  • For example, in the Culinary Basics classes, students earn their Food Handler's Permit, which is valid for three years. This permit helps them currently and in the future if they have an interest in the food industry.

  • Students also use the OK CareerGuide program through all of their classes.

  • For members, they volunteer, compete in career related STAR events, and gain leadership skills that will help them in the future.
